À la mémoire de

Michael Thomas Gillissie

1941 - 2017

Gillissie, Father Michael Thomas

August 23, 1941-March 21, 2017

Fr. Michael left us peacefully after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. Fr. Michael was the priest Parish of St. Philip Church - part of the Archdiocese of Ottawa - until his retirement in 2001.

He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Marcia Gillissie, beloved brother of James (Jocelyn Rheaume), John, Mary Ann McBane (Patrick deceased), Patrick (Julia) and Paul (Romi), and adored by multiple generations of nieces and nephews, former students and parishioners - all of whom became friends.

A celebration of Fr. Michael in the rite of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Philip Church  in Richmond , ON with reception to follow in the Rev. Michael Gillissie Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Philip's Catholic Women's League or The Shepherds of Good Hope Ottawa would be welcomed.

Messages de sympathie

It was with a sad heart that I read of the passing of Michael Gillissie, my sympathies to all his family. I had the great honour of having Michael Gillissie as a teacher through my high school years, encouraging me to stay true to myself; he was my teacher and mentor, as well as a friend. He was a great man and a great teacher, always smiling, always happy; he was always there for his students. RIP Michael, you were a friend to all and you will be missed by everyone.
